You pull back on the sleeve insert your bit and retracts firmly holds in place. The handle is excellent as well and fits palm perfectly has a neat rubber like feel while still being hard not squishy. This is a very unique magnetic screwdriver. I've used many magnetic bit screwdrivers in my time and this is the best by far.
